Changing the game in advocacy- raising support through Mesothelioma Awareness Day

Insulators Local 2 prides itself on the safety measures for ensuring workplace health and safety in exposure to asbestos and other hazard risks while on the job. Our union knows firsthand of the devastation and pain mesothelioma causes for the victim, families and loved ones. Though it may seem like a hopeless battle, determination, compassion, and advocacy can help fight for better treatment options.

Last year alone, Local 2 pioneered its charitable efforts through the Mesothelioma 5K Walk/Run and raised $12k for patients, families and friends in need. Although the walk is not a viable avenue to advocate against the disease this year, Local 2 is still committed to helping the cause for a safe, healthier future for all of those affected.

September represents Mesothelioma Awareness month with Mesothelioma Awareness Day being on September 26, 2020. Communities including patients, family members, colleagues and doctors will join forces in raising awareness to ultimately find a cure. On this day, supporters are encouraged to wear blue and wear mesothelioma awareness wristbands or ribbons.

Thanks to the MesotheliomaGuide, communities can stand up for a cure by showing support by wearing mesothelioma wristbands. Those interested can get your free Mesothelioma Awareness Wristbands here.

Mesothelioma awareness is needed because asbestos-related diseases kill more than 100,000 workers worldwide and 2,500-3,000 people in the U.S. die each year. Mesothelioma Awareness Day helps to increase awareness and educate the public about the dangers of asbestos exposure. This year, on September 26th, Local 2 can band together and wear a wristband and blue clothing  to show support for these alternatives ways to enhance the power of awareness and education of this rare disease.
